I've been home brewing on and off since December 1996. I got started with the Mr. Beer Pilot Brewery but soon got a 5-gallon glass carboy from the local brew shop. Just recently I got away from the pre-hopped mixes and tried myself at ingredient kits. The difference is amazing though I yet have to make a beer that I truly feel comfortable with sharing with guests. I'm still learning and sometimes it just doesn't seem to work out as intended. Here are some of the beer names and labels I made up. I use Corel Photo-Paint to design them and print them on Avery 5164 labels with my Canon BJC-7000 color printer. This is not a brew log and the individual beers are not specific recipes that I brew repeatedly. Rather, I just assign a new label idea to each batch I brew. So, the emphasis of this page is on the label art (I like it a bit off the wall, too), not the brewing details - Relax. Don't worry. Have a homebrew...

The Angels Mr. Damage Brew Batch No. 2 brewed on January 4, 1997 Based on Brewmaker High Gravity Victorian Bitter Mix The theme pays homage to one of my favorite bands - The Angels - from Australia. Mr. Damage is one of their songs. Monkey Paw Banana Brew Batch No. 3 brewed on January 10, 1997 Based on Mr.Beer Octoberfest's Vienna Lager Mix Just an idea for a name, a design and something unusual. It didn't turn out very good... Not The Foggiest Weizenbier Batch No. 4 brewed on January 16, 1997 Based on Mr.Beer Whispering Wheat Weizenbeer Mix A nifty name around a wheat-based beer... Victorian Dark Age Bitter - Knight Edition Batch No. 5 brewed on January 24, 1997 Based on Brewmaker High Gravity Victorian Bitter Mix A bitter inspired by the name of the mix and the clip art that comes with Corel Photo Paint 5. Victorian Dark Age Bitter - Queen Edition Batch No. 6 brewed on February 1, 1997 Based on Brewmaker High Gravity Victorian Bitter Mix A twist on the previous batch with slightly different ingredients. Pepé Le Bréw Ale D'Angleterre Batch No. 7 brewed on February 5, 1997 Based on John Bull English Ale Mix Pepé Le Pew - always with an accent... Steamroller Fool's Gold Lager Batch No. 8 brewed on February 11, 1997 Based on Brewmaker Pilsner Lager Mix Into the abyss of my dirty, twisted mind... Featured in Marie Gordon's short story "Many Years Ago, In A Time Yet To Come, That Might Already Have Passed..." The Last Bandit's Dog & Lager Batch No. 9 brewed on February 19, 1997 Based on Brewmaker Pilsner Lager Mix Inspired by another favorite band of mine - The Dogs D'Amour. Well suited for a drink too... Kilburn Kick Pilsner Batch No. 10 brewed on February 19, 1997 Based on Munton's Connoisseurs Range Export Pilzner Mix Again a reference to The Dogs D'Amour. I can't help it... Steamroller Fool's Gold Lager - Second Edition Batch No. 11 brewed on March 6, 1997 Based on Brewmaker Pilsner Lager Mix The return of the steamroller with updated clip art... Squat Of Lemon Wheat Beer Batch No. 12 brewed on March 7, 1997 Based on Munton's Connoisseurs Range Wheat Beer Mix Twisted with a twist of lemon... Turned out to be the best so far. Turkey Bird Lager Batch No. 13 brewed on November 27, 1997 Based on Coopers Australian Lager Mix Resuming to brew after a summer break. Brewed on Thanksgiving with an appropriate theme. Gothic Sunset IPA Batch No. 14 brewed on December 5, 1997 Based on Munton's Connoisseurs Range Bitter IPA The other day a friend said I looked very gothic. And then I had these sunset photos taken in our backyard. All I needed was a name for the IPA mix I had already bought... Celtic Nights Druid's Choice Amber Batch No. 15 brewed on February 2, 1998 Based on Morgan's Royal Oak Amber Ale Another warped idea. Stonehenge at night and the druids cruising the strip... Who's Amber, anyway? Glum Sugar Plum Devastation Draft Batch No. 16 brewed on February 13, 1998 Based on Coopers Australian Draught Mix 'nother one around a cool clip art and inspired by favorite bands, lyrics, literature and a general cynical outlook on life. Tokyo Rose's Speakeasy Gingered Ale Batch No. 22 brewed on February 21, 1999 Based on Vagabond Gingered Ale recipe, Papazian p.217 As a legend is born, Orphan Ann whispers on the radio... Using Thin Lizzy's "Black Rose" album cover Hopped Hellcat Pinup Honey Pilsener Batch No. 23 brewed on March 7, 1999 Based on Propensity Pilsener Lager recipe, Papazian p.190 A tribute to 50s pinups and pulp/mystery novels. Made with real honey. Rock'N'Roll Pale Ale - Latrine 66 Batch No. 24 brewed on May 2, 1999 Based on Brewer's Best Classic English Pale Ale kit Whatever the "33" on Latrobe's "Rolling Rock" beer stands for again, I just wanted to use Jo Dog's cartoon without using my brain too much. Cheers once more to the The Dogs D'Amour... Wild Angels Pokie Stout Batch No. 25 brewed on May 30, 1999 Based on Brewer's Best Irish Stout kit with maple syrup added "Pokies" are fun (as in frequent pay-outs) video gambling machines in Australia. I almost got thrown out of the casino for taking the picture this label is based on. *** Not Yet Used Labels And Ideas Fanny Adams Glitter Boot Lager A tribute to 70's glitter band Sweet and unintentionally a take on Samuel Adams beer... Well Wound Whirlwind "One sip and she gave her French to the guy next door - then she became a..." (a pulpish take on some Angels lyrics) Tunnel Vision Underground Ale Took this photo in London. Like the color and atmosphere. Nothing much else to say other than I wanted to use the pic for something. Scaredy Cat Cerveza Del Gato This one is for "Jasper", an initially shy cutiepie neighborhood feline who has taken a total liking to us. We don't own him, we don't feed him but he's usually on the doormat when we come home from work or sits on the window sill early morning meouwing to be let inside and petted.
